Welcoming the Christ Child

Welcoming the Christ Child: Family Readings for the Nativity Lent is a collection of forty Bible Story readings designed to trace the ways in which God prepared the world to receive His only begotten Son, so that we might prepare our hearts to receive Him every year on Christmas! Beginning at the creation of the world, we travel through the Old Testament, finding Christ in each prophecy and story, until finally we welcome the Christ Child at His Nativity. For each of the forty days leading up to the feast, you’ll share a short reading with your family, followed by a few questions and a discussion prompt to help cultivate a conversation in your home.

With the matching ornament set, you can create a forty-day Orthodox Jesse Tree to visually trace the journey, as you count down the days until Nativity. (It works just as well whether you’re new calendar or old calendar!)

For more information, including ideas on where to hang the ornaments, take a look at some related posts on my Raising Saints blog.
