Prayer for a Sick Child

This prayer is really wonderful — but it’s hard to find, so I’m posting it online, so that it’s here when we need it. If you need it today, may God bless you and this child with His healing peace and His grace. (This comes from The Book of Needs published by St. Tikhon’s.)


Prayer for a Sick Child

O Lord Jesus Christ, Who came into the world as a little child, 

and Who, although being God, was subject to Your earthly parents: 

Grant Your child, (name), to bear cheerfully 

that which You are pleased to lay upon him/her, 

and readily to obey those set over him/her by You. 

We beseech You, look mercifully upon him/her, 

and in Your great love, grant him/her relief from his/her pain.

Yea, O Lord, Son of God, send Your holy angel from heaven

to guard, cherish, protect, visit and defend Your child, (name),

who is sick in his/her tender age.

Stretch forth Your hold right hand upon him/her,

that, restored to the vigor of health,

he/she may reach the fullness of years,

and serve You faithfully and gratefully all his/her life,

and become an heir of Your Kingdom.

For You are the Physician of our souls and bodies,

O Christ our God, and to You we ascribe glory:

to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit,

now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.
